Nikon D90 torn down, rebuilt in pink (video)
Words… what good are words when you’re trying to describe the horrific visage of a growling, rugged, heavyweight camera coated in the frilly tutu of the color spectrum, magenta? We shan’t try to describe the peculiar mix of revolt, disgust and subtle desire that this whole thing incites in us, and will just point you after the break for the video. There’s plenty of good clean fun to be had while exploring the dismantled D90 (though there’s one instance of foul language when the modder gets an electric shock, understandable) and if you’re of a nervous disposition you can always skip the shockingly pink finale.

Nokia’s limited edition Oakley N97 mini is a match made in Dog heaven
Nothing says, “I don’t play sports but I want you to think that I do” quite like wearing a pair of Oakley shades. And no smartphone has had a tougher time earning respect than the mini version of Nokia’s N97 debacle. To its credit, the N97 mini has become a very successful device for Nokia despite its namesake with not one, but two special edition runs already under its belt. Now we’ve got three with this limited edition model handed out to Oakley-sponsored Winter Olympians. Other than a laser-etched back, the Noakleyia mashup also comes packed with exclusive Oakley team content. Just 200 were produced so if you see it on eBay, you’d better be fast with the snipe. Gratuitous N97 mini video of Shaun White after the break because over-saturated is not in your vocabulary.

Pentax trots out gorgeous K-7 Limited Silver DSLR
Do Japanese gadget makers think we’re not superficial enough to appreciate specially repainted editions of their gear? Because we are, we totally are. Pentax is producing a mere 1,000 units of the above slice of DSLR beauty and predictably they all seem to be headed to the Japanese market. The Limited Silver variant of the K-7 adds a few enhancements, too, with a specially reinforced glass plate protecting the LCD and adding to the original’s robust weatherproofing, as well as updated firmware and photo processing software. The most intriguing addition is the inclusion of a “golden section ratio” focusing screen with curved guiding lines that are supposed to make image composition even easier. We’d say that’s just the sort of cosmetic enhancement you’d expect on a prettied up limited edition shooter, but that’d make our bitterness at not being able to buy one too obvious.

OCZ cranks up the performance on Vertex Limited Edition SSD
CeBIT gets going next month, but OCZ Technology’s not waiting around for the show to begin. Instead, it’s pushing out details on its swankest SSD ever ahead of time, which will hopefully make room for some fancy prototypes to take up space in Germany. The Sandforce-based Vertex Limited Edition (LE) is based around an all-new architecture, and the company claims that this drive is its “fastest, multi-level cell (MLC), performance-based drive yet.” How fast, you ask? How’s about 270MB/sec on the read side and 250MB/sec on the write side, not to mention 15,000 IOPS. Unfortunately, it’s still stuck on the SATA 3Gbps interface, but for those indifferent to that lingering 6Gbps alternative, you can be on the lookout for these to ship in 100GB ($399.99) and 200GB ($829.99) flavors for a limited time.

Xbox 360 retailing in a Final Fantasy XIII bundle for the rest of us
Japan’s been Final Fantasy-ing for a while now, but it looks like an import FFXIII PS3 isn’t your only shot at pointy-haired excellence. Outside of Japan, Microsoft has the exclusive “official” Final Fantasy XIII bundles, in the form of a $399 Xbox 360 that packs a 250GB HDD, two controllers, a standard edition of the game, and some exclusive avatar downloads. Separately available will be some limited edition faceplates (pictured after the break) created by designer Tetsuya Nomura, but if you want a full console paint job you’re still going to have to turn Japanese and fork it over for a PS3 — or level up on your Bob Ross technique and paint it yourself. The bundle should hit stores March 9th.

Jill Stuart’s Sweet Limited Package PSP makes its own innuendos, coming in March
¥21,000 ($232), Japan, March 4. All of the foregoing should be irrelevant information because we’re absolutely, positively, definitely sure you’re not going to actually buy one. Right? Look, even if you genuinely don’t object to Blossom Pink as your color scheme, and if you quite rightly find yourself attracted by the handy soft pouch for ensconcing your new PSP-3000 in, don’t you care about what other people might think? And that’s entirely aside from the generic and lazy expectation that women will buy anything so long as it bears a hue from the pink portion of the spectrum. Either way, this bundle of corporate greed and malevolence is coming in about a month’s time, if you’re weird enough to care.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition impressions

Last October, we would’ve never guessed that T-Mobile would bother to circle back with HTC on the myTouch 3G to craft a slightly modified version that fixes everyone’s single biggest complaint — the lack of an integrated 3.5mm headphone jack — but here we are now in January with that very product resting in our hands. Even crazier, though, is that the only version of the modified phone (or, at least, the only version announced so far) is a limited edition tie-up with Fender and pitchman Eric Clapton. Strange bedfellows, indeed — maybe just strange enough to work. Seriously, who doesn’t want a phone endorsed by one of the hippest, most storied brands of the 20th century?

Leica MP Golden Camera celebrates 60th anniversary of Chinese republic
You know how Leica marks itself out with its typically subdued matte black finishes and old school designs? Well, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, the camera company has decided to go a bit crazy and punish reward us with this 24 carat gold-plated shooter. Limited to a run of 60, each hallmarked with a year between 1949 and 2009, the Golden Camera is encased in red calfskin, bears an inscription of Mao Zedong’s favorite slogan, and sports a Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 lens. To max out the gaudiness, you also get a wooden box to store your equipment in. Sold exclusively in mainland China, these will cost 199,900 Chinese Yuan ($29,300) each, though Leica is also bringing out limited edition M8.2 and D-Lux 4 models — sans any precious metals — for the more budget-conscious patriots out there. Check ‘em out after the break, or hit the source link for even more.

Hello Kitty gets another 12.1 meowgapixel camera to celebrate her 35th anniversary
Can you believe that Hello Kitty’s turning 35? She sure does look great for her age! Surprisingly this is not the first 12.1 megapixeled Casio digicam we’ve seen outed to commemorate this most special of occasions — but it certainly comes in some of the hottest pinks we’ve seen thus far. This limited edition, Korea-only Casio EX-Z90 boasts all the same features as the regular one — 3X optical zoom, auto-detect and “Intelligent” autofocus — plus those megapixels we already mentioned. Really, the biggest selling point here is the blinged up branding, and we’d assume that makes it worth the KRW 350,000 (around $300) price tag.
